Jiu Jitsu

Information you need to know.

How belts work at Spectrum. Kids and adults. Coach promotes. No paid test.

The path

Kids · 4–15

White, grey, yellow, orange, green.

Stripes on the belt as they train. Next colour when the coach says they’re ready. Age first — they cannot skip into an adult belt early.

Adults · 18+

White, blue, purple, brown, black.

Four stripes per belt. Spectrum white to blue: 40 classes and 3 months per stripe. Coach promotes.

Minimum time

Blue 2 yrs. Purple 1½. Brown 1.

Those are the shortest waits. The professor decides how long you actually stay. Showing up is what counts.

16 and 17

Blue, purple, brown.

Not kids grey belts. Not a full adult black belt path yet. They train with the room and get ranked for their age.

Helping a kids class still counts as your class. You showed up, you helped the gym, you learned to teach.

Ages and minimum times follow the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. Spectrum still promotes on the mats — Ryan and the coaches, not a paid test.
